EPROM manages essential Operation and Maintenance activities for the MIDOR refinery, including process units, pipeline transfers, operations management, and maintenance. It also covers production planning using linear programming (LP), HSEQ systems, technical support, procurement, and human resources development. Additionally, EPROM provides marine terminal services at MIDOR’S Dikhela Port for product shipments, ensuring smooth and efficient refinery operations.

Contract Date

EPROM has been Managing MIDOR under a global Operation and Maintenance Management Contract since August 2002.

About

  • Location: Amreya Free Zone, Alexandria, Egypt
  • Ownership: Primarily owned by the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC)
  • Capacity: Initially designed for 5 million tons per year (100,000 barrels per day), it underwent a significant expansion to increase capacity to 160,000 barrels per day.
  • Focus: Produces a high yield of white products (fuels like gasoline and diesel) through deep conversion processes.
  • Sustainability: Emphasizes environmental protection and energy efficiency.

Plant Description

MIDOR is the most advanced refinery in Africa and is being classified as the sixth in the Mediterranean, based on technological complexity, reaching a standard of 11.5, according to Nelson Complexity Index.

Refinery Units can be summarized as follows:

  • Hydrogen (H2) Plant.

MIDOR has successfully completed an ambitious expansion project, increasing its refining capacity by 60% to reach 160,000 barrels per day (bpd). This expansion included the addition of key processing units such as the CDU-VDU, Hydrocracker, HPU, Kerosene Hydrotreater (HT), Diesel Hydrotreater (HT), Sulfur Complex, and Dissolvent De-asphalting unit, along with significant upgrades to the existing utilities.

With the project now fully completed, the refinery is operating at its enhanced capacity, reinforcing MIDOR’s position as a leading player in the refining industry.
