San Misr and EPROM role in the North Gesom field expansion project

Eng. Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, inaugurated the expansions of the North Gesom field in the PetroGulf concession area in the Gulf of Zeit in the Eastern Desert, which witnessed development and an increase in production and reserves, as the field jumped with PetroGulf’s production from 4 thousand to 19 thousand barrels of oil per day, and the confirmed reserve increased from 118 million to about 203 million barrels during the first half of the current year 2023.

The Minister stressed that the new expansions and increased production come as a direct result of the ministry’s strategy to increase and maximize the production of petroleum wealth and accelerate the placement of new petroleum projects on the production map, through optimal exploitation of the available existing facilities or adding new facilities in the existing petroleum production areas in light of the existing and ongoing cooperation between the operating petroleum entities.

Al-Mulla stressed the importance of adhering to the highest safety standards in business management, noting that the sustainability of operations, the preservation of workers and facilities, achieving environmental compatibility, and reducing emissions are fundamentals that the Ministry’s work strategy does not deviate from, especially since this achieves economic and environmental returns that add to the productive value.

Eng. Abdel Wahab El Maghawry, Chairman of PetroGulf Egypt, explained that after the discovery of the field reservoir, an evaluation well was successfully drilled from the Delta offshore platform with the aim of evaluating the southern extension of the reservoir, and production was accelerated using the available facilities. Two other evaluation wells were also drilled through the Delta offshore platform with the aim of evaluating the southern extension of the Nakhl Sands reservoir, and production was carried out using the available facilities. They were put into production at a daily production rate of 7,800 barrels per day.

The integrated works for the field’s production facilities were awarded to the Petroleum Marine Services Company (PMS), and included an offshore platform to accommodate 5 wells and 2 offshore lines with a diameter of 10 inches and a length of 5.5 km to connect North Gesom North and the Gesom Star station and a mobile offshore production unit.

At the end of December 2022, the project work was completed in full as planned, and from January 2023 to April 2023, three wells were connected to the new facilities and production began, thus achieving an increase in production and reserves. The company’s chairman also presented plans for developing the field and increasing the region’s production.

Role of San Misr:

The Minister inaugurated the industrial wastewater treatment plant at PetroGulf Company, which was implemented by Egypt Maintenance Company “San Misr” with a capacity of 10 thousand barrels of water per day and a cost of 3.5 million dollars, which achieves the strategic goals of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources in increasing environmental compatibility and economic efficiency in managing petroleum projects.

Role of EPROM:

It is worth noting that the incentive for providing diesel and reducing emissions was implemented through EPROM Company, which worked on this project for a full year, which can be applied to all diesel-powered generators.
