As a significant step toward achieving sustainable development goals and supporting the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources strategy to reduce carbon emissions, while strengthening strategic and effective partnerships among Egyptian petroleum sector companies, a special graduation ceremony was held under the sponsorship of Enppi, EPROM, and the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality (EOS) on February 24th at Enppi’s headquarters. The event marked the completion of the training program organized by the Center of Excellence for Energy Transition, aimed at qualifying 28 engineers from various petroleum sector companies to obtain the “Carbon Footprint Verifier’s License.”
The ceremony was attended by the event sponsors: Eng. Wael Lotfy, Chairman and CEO of Enppi, Eng. Hossam Assad, Chairman and CEO of EPROM, and Dr. Khaled Sofy, Chairman of the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality (EOS) and President of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). In addition, several key leaders from Egypt’s petroleum sector and members of the Supreme Energy Committee participated in the event.
The establishment of the Center of Excellence represents a major step toward energy transition within the Egyptian petroleum sector, driving progress toward a more sustainable future in line with Egypt Vision 2030. The center provides a wide range of specialized services, including: Advanced training programs using cutting-edge technologies, simulation tools, and virtual reality applications, Hands-on training on industrial equipment models, Technical studies and audits to enhance energy efficiency and develop energy management systems in accordance with international standards, Economic feasibility studies for energy efficiency projects, Support for technology development, including standardization in energy efficiency, energy consumption analysis, renewable energy applications, and innovative technological advancements in the field and Assisting companies in obtaining certified energy management system accreditations.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Eng. Amr El-Khashab, Manager of the Center of Excellence for Energy Transition, delivered an opening speech highlighting the positive impact of collaboration between Enppi, EPROM, and EOS, emphasizing the center’s crucial role in advancing energy transition and environmental awareness in Egypt. He also underscored the importance of training programs in transferring cutting-edge knowledge and best practices in carbon footprint reduction, reaffirming the Egyptian petroleum sector’s commitment to talent development and performance improvement in the face of current environmental challenges.
Following this, Eng. Iman Mekawi, Deputy Manager of the Center of Excellence, gave a presentation showcasing the center’s activities and key achievements over the 2024/2025 period.
Eng. Wael Lotfy, Chairman and CEO of Enppi, welcomed the attendees with an opening speech, congratulating all graduates of the first wave of the training program. He praised the high quality of the program’s design, considering it an effective tool for promoting energy efficiency initiatives and reducing emissions. He also emphasized its direct positive impact on the sector, society, and the Egyptian economy.
He highlighted the program’s role in preparing highly qualified professionals to tackle global environmental challenges within the petroleum and energy industries. He concluded his speech by encouraging the graduates to share their expertise and knowledge from the program with their colleagues across different companies in the sector.
Eng. Hossam Assad, Chairman and CEO of EPROM, also delivered a speech, commending the fruitful collaboration between the Center of Excellence for Energy Transition and the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality (EOS) in organizing and executing this distinguished training program. He emphasized that carbon footprint assessment is a strategic tool that enables companies to develop emission reduction strategies and achieve carbon neutrality. He further noted that the program provided graduates with unprecedented expertise and a key role in leading change within the Egyptian petroleum sector and the broader energy industry. He also focused the importance of expanding the center’s scope of operations to provide its services to international energy markets, rather than being limited to the local sector.
Dr. Khaled Sofy, Chairman of EOS, delivered a speech expressing his appreciation for the efforts of the Center of Excellence in raising awareness about carbon footprint assessment. He reaffirmed the full support of EOS for all initiatives that contribute directly to sustainable development goals. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of knowledge sharing and collaborative learning within all Egyptian petroleum sector companies.
At the end of the ceremony, Eng. Wael Lotfy, Eng. Hossam Assad, and Dr. Khaled Sofy congratulated the graduates and presented them with their official “Carbon Footprint Verifier’s License” certificates.
The event concluded with group photos and well wishes for the graduates’ future success, encouraging them to apply their technical and practical expertise to elevate and advance the Egyptian petroleum sector.
